Al Singer Honored for Child Advocacy

The Altruistic Insurance Executive Who Founded PEOPLE AGAINST CHILDREN STARVING-USA is a Quality of Life Recipient

Al Singer, President of Singer Nelson Charlmers, a New York-Teaneck, New Jersey insurance agency, was recently selected as a Quality of Life grant recipient by the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation in Park Ridge, Illinois. Mr. Singer is being recognized for outstanding community service on behalf of People Against Children Starving-USA - a charity he established in 1997 to aid America's underprivileged youngsters. The grant (the minimum amount is $2,500) which will accrue to PACS will be awarded to Mr. Singer at MDRT's annual meeting scheduled for June 23-26 in Nashville, Tennessee. The MDRT Foundation, dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in need, is the philanthropic arm of the Million Dollar Round Table, an international association of the world's best life insurance and financial services professionals.

Our story began some four years ago when Mr. Singer discovered from a disturbing television documentary, that 12 million children go to bed hungry every night in our affluent nation. His immediate reactions were not only disbelief and shock but dismay - because he believes strongly that our children represent the future. Studies prove that youngsters who are not properly fed suffer negative academic performance in school and are more prone to psychological problems.

Immediately, Mr. Singer resolved to eradicate this societal ill, which he says is caused by a variety of problems such as unemployment and poverty, the breakdown of the American family, alcohol and drug abuse, physical disabilities and mental illness.

Rolling up his sleeves and networking tirelessly, Al Singer established a brand-new charity, PACS-USA, that works in conjunction with Feed The Children, an Oklahoma City-based relief organization that has distributed food to children worldwide since 1979.

Due to Mr. Singer's success in involving civic-minded insurance agents and other professionals across the country, PACS-USA has raised large sums of money to fund the project. Funds accrue to Feed The Children, which, in turn, coordinates the distribution of food to food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, day care centers and related organizations in cities nationwide.

A truck sponsorship program allows an individual, company, group, or church to provide an entire or partial truckload to those in need. A contribution of $5,400 sponsors one truckload, which may contain up to 35,000 pounds of various foodstuffs such as pasta, beans, vegetables, baby food, soup, oatmeal, and tea. Major manufacturers provide the food at cost. The retail value of each Feed The Children truckload is $40,000.

If you would like to get involved in this important cause, Mr. Singer urges you to contact him. "We need your help," he says. "All it takes is $5,400 whether you contribute personally or encourage family, friends, or business associates to do so. When you contribute a whole truckload, you can pick the location of the food distribution and be on hand for the delivery. It's a wonderful opportunity for your business or group to receive publicity."
